Chick Picks '09: Best of Health Clubs

| Sunday November 1, 2009 Leave a comment
Cold weather is coming, and the days of running in the city park may be soon be few and far between.  In our belt-tightening economic times, asking for a personal recommendation on an investment like a gym membership is a smart move.

Which gyms and studios met ChickAdvisor members' standard?  We checked your reviews for the answer.

Pole dancing was an improbable choice for some initially, but now has firmly established itself as a bona fide fitness option.  As a still relatively new service, our members suggest searching out an uncrowded class to ensure you get your fair share of pole time.

Top marks from our Chicks went to Flirty Girl Fitness, with honourable mentions to Aradia Fitness and Live Once Pole Dance.

From that new to this time-tested true, you gave high marks to your favourite yoga studio.  Hot yoga proved to be a solid new trend, with the classic pilates continuing as a go-to exercise option.

You loved Moksha Yoga, but also gave a nod to Tula's classes.

Finding the right gym, on the other hand, proved to be a proverbial needle in the haystack.  Some of the most scathing reviews on ChickAdvisor have come at the expense of several large fitness chains, prompting other members to fiercely defend their favourite sweat stop.  The take-home message is Buyer Beware - read your contract and keep your management accountable.

You gave a decent grade to Goodlife Fitness, but others defected to preferred alternatives like yoga and dance.

Still looking for another option?  You praised not-so-out of the box choices like wall climbing and salsa for their mixture of fun and calorie burning exercise.  Cliffhanger Climbing Gym and TorontoDanceSalsa were particular recommends from our members.
